PRE-SPRING WITH KATHARINA KAMINSKI
With a softly bohemian allure, get ready for the seasonal transition through an everyday wardrobe designed to feel warm, comforting, and easy to wear.
This capsule captures the first signs of spring through an earthy, enveloping atmosphere, embodied by ceramist artist and model Katharina Kaminski.
A natural muse for this campaign, we met her at home and later on the forecourt of the Centre Pompidou, a landmark of contemporary art, to discuss her relationship with clothing, the body, and creation.
To be discovered in our interview.
Do you see getting dressed as a creative act?
I like to see everything as a creative act. Human beings are creators by nature, and getting dressed is no exception. It’s a way of expressing yourself, shifting your aura, and changing how you feel simply through what you choose to wear. My relationship with style has certainly evolved over the years, but I don’t see it as a linear journey. Each stage of life deserves to be embraced in its own imperfectly perfect way.
How do the clothes you wear influence your creative process?
The other day, Vanessa and I were talking about this. I had just given away a pile of clothes that were really worn out - the kind I usually work in. I decided to pass them on to someone who needed them more, and instead pay attention to how the clothes I wear while creating make me feel. Even when I’m creating “for myself,” they play a role in supporting the process, and that matters. What I put on my body changes how I move through my work. I choose what I wear intuitively, but authenticity is always what I look for in a garment.
When I make art, I don’t follow a precise intention beyond expressing myself as deeply and honestly as possible. I like to approach creation as if I were offering something to God, to nature, to the universe. People sometimes describe my work as sensual, but for me it’s about tapping into that life-force, the creative power every human being carries. The sensuality comes from creation itself: the act of bringing something to life, whether it’s art or anything else.
What place does fashion hold in your life today?
I try not to wear completely destroyed shirts when I work, but of course, I don’t dress up for the studio. Still, ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved getting dressed. There are videos of me at four or five, putting on earrings and sunglasses, completely absorbed in the ritual. I feel lucky to live a life where I can devote myself to my art while also keeping a foot in the fashion world, a space that lets me play, try on different versions of myself, and embody different alter egos. And beyond that, I love working with people. Teamwork is deeply inspiring and incredibly nourishing for me.
